The tables below summarises the breeding status of known or potential
breeding species in Co Waterford during the 2008 and 2009 Atlas seasons, by 10-km square. For the national Bird Atlas
project (two further seasons 2010 & 2011 to complete), the aim will be to fill in the gaps and also upgrade the majority
of species/squares to confirmed breeding. Only squares with the majority of their land in Co Waterford are
listed below - fieldwork is also underway in other squares along the Co Waterford border. Species not considered to be currently breeding in Co Waterford are excluded, as are records of Peregrine;
additional records are available for local atlas purposes from 2006 or 2007 but these will not be used for the national
atlas.
CONF = confirmed breeding (nest, food for young, fledged young etc); PROB =
probably breeding (pair, territory, display, building etc); poss = possibled breeding (bird in suitable havitat or singing
male); unsp = unspecified status; fly
= direct over-flight only; summ = summering non-breeder; migr = migrant or late winterer.
